Need TECC for your department, agency, or team?

TECC is scheduled on request. Tell us your head count, whether you need the 16-hour provider course or the 8-hour TECC-LEO course, and the dates that work.

TECC classes meet at 255 W Moana Ln, Suite 200 in Reno or at your station, and serve fire, EMS, and law enforcement from Sparks, Carson City, Fernley, Fallon, and Lake Tahoe.

About the TECC course

TECC takes the lessons of military casualty care and adapts them to civilian responders working an active shooter, bombing, or other hostile event.

NAEMT's Tactical Emergency Casualty Care course teaches EMS clinicians and other prehospital responders how to care for patients in a civilian tactical environment. The course is consistent with the current guidelines of the Committee for Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (C-TECC), and NAEMT is a recognized education partner of that committee. You learn to deliver the right care at the right time across the phases of a tactical incident: direct threat care, indirect threat care, and evacuation.

The third edition is built around real-world active shooter and hostile event scenarios in every lesson, with shorter lectures and more time at the skill stations. Expect hands-on practice with tourniquets and tourniquet conversion, wound packing, airway and chest injury management, casualty movement, triage, and casualty tracking and reunification, plus new content on the psychological response to mass casualty incidents and clinician mental health.

Looking for the military course instead? TCCC follows the Committee on Tactical Combat Casualty Care guidelines for uniformed personnel. Ask us which course your role calls for.

TECC questions

What is the difference between TECC and TCCC?

TCCC (Tactical Combat Casualty Care) is the military standard, written by the Committee on Tactical Combat Casualty Care for uniformed personnel. TECC adapts those principles for civilian responders and follows the Committee for Tactical Emergency Casualty Care guidelines. If you are a civilian EMS provider, firefighter, or officer, TECC is the course for you.

Do I need to be a paramedic to take TECC?

No. The 16-hour provider course is for EMTs, AEMTs, and paramedics. Law enforcement officers and other non-EMS first responders take the 8-hour TECC-LEO course, which covers the same material at a first-responder level.

How long is the TECC course?

The provider course is 16 hours, usually taught over two days. TECC-LEO and the refresher are each 8 hours.

What certification do I get, and how long is it good for?

When you pass, NAEMT issues a certificate of completion and a TECC provider card that is valid for 4 years.

Does TECC count for continuing education?

Yes. TECC is accredited by CAPCE (the Commission on Accreditation for Pre-Hospital Continuing Education) for 16 hours of continuing education credit and is recognized by the National Registry of EMTs (NREMT) for recertification. TECC-LEO and the refresher each earn 8 hours.

Is there pre-course work for TECC?

Yes. Plan to complete the pre-course reading from the TECC materials before the first day, and in some courses a pre-test as well. We send the details and any online access codes after you register, so give yourself at least a week.

Do I need the TECC book?

Yes. You must have access to the current NAEMT TECC course manual before, during, and after class. You can add it when you register. If you decline the book at registration, you are confirming that you already have access to the current edition by other means, for example a copy from your employer.

What should I wear?

Clothes you can kneel, drag, and carry in. Skill stations and scenarios are physical, and a duty uniform or station wear works well. Bring your own tourniquet if your agency issues one.

How do I register?

Registration is online only. When a TECC date is posted, pick it at the top of this page and tap Register to finish on our secure checkout. For a course scheduled on request, text (775) 235-2117 or email Info@HinsonCPR.com and we will set a date and send you the registration link. We cannot take registrations or payments over the phone.

What if I need to change my date?

Contact us before your class. TECC reschedules are $50, and all purchases are nonrefundable. Full details are in our terms and conditions.

Can you teach TECC for my agency or crew?

Yes. Most TECC classes run as private courses for fire departments, ambulance services, hospitals, and other groups. We can teach at our Reno classroom or at your station or facility. Text (775) 235-2117 or email Info@HinsonCPR.com with your head count and the dates that work for you.

Is Hinson CPR the same as Sierra BLS?

Yes. Hinson CPR is the new name for Sierra BLS. Same owner, same classroom on Moana Lane, and the same authorized NAEMT Training Center.

TECC and the Tactical Emergency Casualty Care logo are trademarks of the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT), used here to promote registered NAEMT courses taught by Hinson CPR, formerly Sierra BLS, an authorized NAEMT Training Center.
