What the AHA expects

The five instructor competencies

The AHA defines five core competencies for every instructor candidate. The instructor course builds each one, and your monitored course confirms them.

  • 01

    Skills

Show mastery of every skill in the courses you teach, both cognitive and psychomotor.

  • 02

    Course delivery

Teach AHA materials correctly, as outlined in the Instructor Manual and lesson plans.

  • 03

    Testing

Test students accurately and effectively, on both skills and the written exam.

  • 04

    Professionalism

Hold a high standard of ethics and professionalism in every AHA course you teach.

  • 05

    Program administration

Manage time, space, materials, and paperwork in line with AHA guidelines.

FAQ

Common questions

Still have a question? Call or text

(775) 235-2117

or email Info@HinsonCPR.com

Can I take the instructor course online?

No. The AHA doesn't allow virtual instructor courses for first-time instructor candidates, so the instructor course and your monitored course are both in person. Instructor Essentials Online is the only online part, and you finish it before class.

Can BLS Instructors teach Heartsaver?

Yes. With the Heartsaver Instructor Manual, BLS Instructors can teach Heartsaver CPR AED and First Aid courses, classroom and blended. That's why the BLS track covers both.

How long do I have to finish?

Teach your first course under monitoring within six months of the instructor course. Once your monitoring is complete, your AHA Instructor eCard is issued, valid for 2 years.

What if I don't send my documents in time?

Candidates who haven't sent a copy of their current provider card and their Instructor Essentials Online certificate at least five business days before class are denied entry and must reschedule. The $50 reschedule fee applies.

Do I pay to align with you after I pass?

No. Alignment with Hinson CPR is free: no alignment, roster, or yearly fees. You pay only for the eCards you issue, from $6, plus renewal monitoring if you ever need it. See alignment details.

Can I register or pay over the phone?

No. Registration and payment are completed online, so we can't take them over the phone. Pick a date above and register in minutes.

What is your refund policy?

All purchases are nonrefundable, and instructor course reschedules are $50. Please read our Terms and Conditions before you register.

Where is class?

255 W Moana Ln, Suite 200, Reno, NV 89509, in The Atrium. Park outside either entrance. Suite 200 is on the west side, second floor. Please arrive 10 minutes early. Get directions.
